I believe our film does show some continuity, the film flows well and is in a chronological order and uses continuity editing. There are parts of this film that show ‘continuity errors’ for example; there are some parts of the film where there are bags or something of that nature on chairs and tables around the scene in some parts of the film but not in others.
Match on action was used during our piece as a man walks through a door. This is used to show where there character has been and where he is going, it allows the audience to follow the character through there surrounding and it keeps the action flowing.
Shot Reverse Shot
is used when two characters are taking face to face, it uses over the shoulder
shots of each character to allow you to see their reactions. A Shot Reverse
Shot is always used with the 180 degree rule, this means the camera always
stays on the same side of the characters the keep the audience orientated and
this allows the film to run more smoothly.
I believe my group
worked rather well together, we split some of the tasks evenly among us and
worked together on the filming and editing aspects of the film, we also discussed
important final decisions to insure the majority of the group were happy.
If I were to
re-film to piece I would focus more on the finer detail of the film, making
sure all of the shots had the same background and lighting to insure each shot
looked the same to reduce continuity errors. I would also use two cameras while
filming and put them at different angles so I would be able to select the angle
that looked the best on screen, and also make sure all aspect of filming were
thought about so parts wouldn’t have to be created by editing.
I believe the
planning of the film could have been improved. If I were to change anything I
would have created a list of things to consider and remember before and during
filming, for example listing exactly how curtains were set and exactly how chairs were placed
to allow there to be no continuity errors. I would have also planned what music
we were going to use before filming the piece as it was difficult to find music
and would have been easier to find it before editing and filming.
During the piece
both fades and cuts were used, the fades were used between scenes that were
neither climatic nor anti-climactic and cuts were used between scenes that were
being up to the main action of the piece. This is because the fade is a more
gentle way to change from one scene to another whereas the cut is more
energetic and jumpy.
During this
exercise I have learnt how to do simple editing such as cutting a clip shorter
and adding text to the screen on the i movie editing software.
