As a media class we were asked to analyse past student films. This is so we could get an understand of what works and what doesn't as student film openings and what the exam board are looking for in the film opening sequences we are producing.
Rural Superheroes
From watching the opening sequence and the film title we can guess the film is a comedy as the title has two words you wouldn't expect to see together, therefore it makes the title comical and gives the film a comedy genre. In editing in this opening sequence uses cuts with few other transitions used. The other editing such as eyeline matches and 180 degree rule are done well throughout the clip. The sound used throughout the opening sequence is used well as the sound fits the genre of the film. The diegetic sound is also good as it is very clear so it allows you to clearly hear what is going on so it allows you to follow the story line. Quiet a few camera angles are used, the majority however are mid shots as this allows us to see the expression on the characters face as well as seeing the setting around them. The lighting in this sequence is natural, this is because the sequence is set in a field during the day therefore it is only normal to use natural light. The costumes used in the piece help the audience to identify the characters in the sequence. The costumes tell us that there are a nerd, a hippy as well as a country man, this also helps towards the comedy genre as it is seen as funny to see three such different people in one place. The titles within the piece are not integrated however they move around the characters so they don't interrupt any action on screen.
