Differences between mainstream and independant openings

Independent openings:

From the opening of This Is England'86 you can see that the majority of the clips seen are well known events from England's past. This is done by independent production company as English independent companies are often seen as using many British stereotypes and history to attract an English audience. Another reason they use real footage is because it gives a better effect as the images are grainy and look more realistic and less 'glossy' like mainstream films look, it is also a lot cheaper to use actual footage rather than re-shooting the already existing footage which can be very expensive.

Mainstream openings:

From the opening of Breaking Dawn you can see that there are many establishing shots and special effects which are costly to produce, there is also an original soundtrack whereas This Is England has a  song which was not created for the film which saves money. The titles themselves in Breaking Dawn are a lot more detailed are have effects one them which This Is England done not.
