The opening of Lords of War gives you information to what the film will be about. The genre of the film is action, we know this because the opening involves us following a bullet towards a scene of conflict. The atmosphere of the title sequence is oddly upbeat because the song they used song very happy even though it is about the Vietnam war, there is therefore a juxterpostion against the bullet and the song. The themes of the film can also be mad clear through watching the title sequnce, the themes of death and war are shown from the gun being shot and seeing the bullet enter the mans head, another reason we know it inolves war is because we are following the 'life' of a bullet which often connotes war and death. There are multipul settings scene in the title sequnce so we can get an idea of where the film will be set or that there will be multipul settings involved even if it isnt those exact settings. They have used a song rather than just music in the opening credits, by doing this we can know more about the films narrative because the song is about war which could tell us the the film will also be about war. The titles of the piece are not intergrated, they use a formal font which makes the titles look officail. The titles are always seen in the middle of the screen which makes the titles stand out more. From the titles it tells us that there will be two main characters but there is no more information than that because we never actually see those characters in the opening title sequence.
Panic Room
The opening sequence from Panic Room sets the tone of the film but doesn’t give much information away. The atmosphere of the film is very tense and mysterious, we know this because the sequence is quite fasted paced and the music is very tense and eerie. The themes of the film are also partly made clear through the sound and titles used, you can tell the film will have themes of chaos and enclosure, we know this because you can hear the chaotic sounds of the city and the titles appear to look like metal which along with the film title tells us that an enclosed space would be involved. The film is set in New York, we know this because iconic buildings and central park is seen, we can also see the iconic yellow cabs which are often associated with New York. The sound of the film is very tense and eerie. The sound changes (starts to tick) when a title pops up to make it more obvious that there is a title there. The titles of the opening sequence are half integrated and half not integrated. When the titles are integrated they can be very difficult to see, this can make the audience more engaged with the film. The titles that aren’t integrated are across the middle of the screen, this makes them very clear to the audience so they can remember the names seen.
