The Last Exorcism
The Last Exorcism is a film about an evangelical Reverend being followed by a documentary maker who is creating a film on his life and exorcisms, the Reverend performs an exorcisms and not is all as it seems. The Last Exorcism used a viral campaign on chatroulette to advertise their film, it began with a girl undressing who then turns into a monster. We would not do a viral campaign like that as it would cost a lot of money and may get complaints. The Last Exorcisms also had a poster campaign but received a large number of complaints due to the nature of the poster, they therefore had to change the poster which would cost a large amount of money if on e had not yet been printed, photographed or edited.
Paranormal Activity
The campaign to Paranormal Activity worked in the oppostie way you would expect a film to, after rumours of a 'true' series of event and claim that the tape for the film was haunted. On the website there is a 'Demand it' button, this allows the fans of the film to demand the film is their city if there are enough votes. By doing this the fans control where the film will go. Paranormal Activity also had a large poster and tv campaign which allowed a large volume of people to see the adverts.
Our advertising
As my group are creating an independent film we will be unlikely to have a large amount of money set aside for advertising because of this do advertising that is either free or cheap to produce. As social media sites are a great way to interact or advertise what is out there we will use a number of sites, E.g. Facebook, Twitter and youtube to advertise the film. By setting up accounts on these website we are able to show the target audience trailers and clips from the film to draw them in, as well as advertising exactly where they can be seen. The film can also be advertised with posters however they can expensive to produce so we would only use posters around the cinema where it will be shown.
